Patriots Day, and the 2018 Boston Marathon, will soon be upon us. Amby and Ray, your editors at Mathematical Runner, are both running the marathon this year. To celebrate, Mathematical Runner will publish a series of articles leading up to the big day based on numbers associated with the race. Follow along with us and learn everything from how many winners have come from each country to the number of portapotties along the course.
Amby Burfoot (bib #1968) ran his first Boston Marathon in 1965. This will be his 25th start, and will mark the 50th anniversary of his win in 1968. Ray Charbonneau (#7676) is running his 7th Boston. Ray’s personal best Boston time (3:14:01) was his first, in 2002, when he finished 3055th beat more than 11,500 people.
Were you saving the bit of trivia that Amby is the most recent non-Monday winner as well?
